A three-storey Victorian terrace in Plumstead, SE18: 60m² of original pine across four rooms and two hallways, and a floor that needed real repair before it could be sanded at all.
Many of the boards were split, damaged or past saving. Extensive repairs had to come first — there is no point sanding a floor that is not sound underneath, and no finish will hide a board that moves when you walk on it.

Repairs before anything else
Damaged boards were taken up and replaced with reclaimed pine, matched to the originals so the repairs would disappear once the floor was sanded as a single surface rather than standing out as patches.

Sanding and finishing
The floor was sanded with a belt sander for the open areas and edger sanders for the perimeters, then finished with a primer coat and two coats of commercial lacquer.

The result
A tough job, labour-intensive and not quick, but we got there in the end — and the customer moved into a house with 60m² of restored pine running through it.
